Monroe E Price Media Law Moot
The Price Moot, named after Professor Monroe E Price, is the world's leading moot on international human rights, with a particular focus on freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, and privacy, as well as the intersection with online technology (such as intermediary liability regarding the regulation of speech that incites discrimination and the right to anonymity).
Proceedings are brought before a fictitious world court for which the jurisprudence of regional and international human rights tribunals bear the most weight. Judges in the international rounds include King's Counsel, judges of the European Court of Human Rights, and in-house counsel for companies such as Google and facebook. The moot was originally run by the Programme in Comparative Law at the University of Oxford; since 2017, the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights has administered the competition. Due to travel restrictions brought about by COVID-19, the 2020/21, 2021/22, and 2022/23 editions of the international rounds were held online.
